The Music That Shaped Me
The music I grew up with still finds its way into every song I write.
Hi, I’m Solomon. Thanks for stopping by. I grew up listening to more or less everything, and I’ve never seen much point in choosing one lane and staying there. Country and folk taught me that a song can say what it needs to say plainly, with a melody that already feels familiar by the second verse.
Pop and rock gave me the other half: drums, lift, the chorus you reach over and turn up. That is where I learned what a song can do to a room.
And faith runs through my life, so it runs through the writing. Contemporary Christian music gives me somewhere to put the gratitude and the questions, and I try to be truthful about both.
Songs of Solomon does not stay in one genre, and will not. Each song gets what it asks for. My writing serves the song rather than the label.
