Privacy, Cookies & Website Terms
Last updated: 6 August 2026
This page explains how Songs of Solomon handles personal information, uses cookies and similar technology, and sets the terms for using this website. It is written to cover the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR where it applies, and UK electronic-communications rules.
Privacy Notice
Who is responsible for your information
The data controller is Courtnall Solomon Machanick, trading as Songs of Solomon, based in Southampton, UK. If you have a privacy question, want to exercise a right, or wish to make a data-protection complaint, please use the contact form and choose Other or general enquiry.
Information I may collect
- Information you provide: your name, email address, enquiry type and message when you use the contact form; your email address and optional first name when you join the mailing list; and any information you choose to include in a message.
- Website-use information: pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser information, referring page, button and outbound-link clicks, song plays and progress, sharing actions, and similar engagement events. Google Analytics receives this information in line with the regional consent defaults and the choice you make on this site.
- Advertising-measurement information: if you allow advertising, a Meta pixel records that a page was viewed and that a streaming link was tapped, together with the identifiers Meta uses to recognise a browser. It is how I can tell whether an advertisement I paid for actually brought anyone to the music. Nothing you type into a form is sent to Meta.
- Technical and security information: limited logs and identifiers needed to deliver, secure and troubleshoot the website, prevent abuse and remember your privacy choice.
Please do not send sensitive personal information through the contact form unless it is genuinely necessary for your enquiry.
Why I use information and the lawful basis
- To reply to enquiries and take steps you request before a possible collaboration, booking, licence or other arrangement: contractual necessity or legitimate interests in communicating about the music and the website.
- To send release news and behind-the-scenes updates after you join the mailing list: consent. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- To measure how the website and music are used, improve the experience and understand which content is useful: consent where prior consent is legally required; elsewhere, legitimate interests in proportionate audience measurement, subject to the prominent analytics opt-out and the safeguards described below.
- To understand whether an advertisement led you to this site and whether you went on to the music: consent. Advertising technology is never loaded before you allow it, and you can withdraw at any time.
- To keep the website secure, prevent misuse, diagnose faults and establish or defend legal claims: legitimate interests and, where relevant, legal obligation.
- To comply with tax, accounting, law-enforcement or other legal duties where they apply: legal obligation.
I do not use website analytics for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects. Google Signals and User-ID stay switched off, and Google’s advertising features are not used. Where you allow advertising, Meta can recognise a browser it already knows and connect this visit to a Meta account. That is how the measurement works, and it is precisely what the Advertising choice turns on and off.
Who receives information
I use a small number of service providers to operate the website:
- Bandzoogle hosts the website, forms, music player and core site services.
- Google Analytics processes website-use and engagement data under regional Consent Mode settings and your saved choice.
- Kit (formerly ConvertKit) provides the mailing-list signup and email service.
- Meta Platforms receives advertising-measurement events from this site, and only where you have allowed advertising. Meta decides its own purposes for that data under its own terms, so it is an independent controller rather than a processor acting for me.
- Professional advisers, regulators or public authorities may receive information where reasonably necessary or legally required.
Links to Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, press sites and other services take you to those providers. They process information under their own privacy notices once you choose to visit them. The site’s sharing tools use your device’s share function or open the service you select; Songs of Solomon does not receive your private social-media or email content.
International transfers
Some providers may process information outside the UK or European Economic Area. Where data-protection law requires it, transfers are protected through an adequacy decision, approved contractual safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or another lawful transfer mechanism.
How long information is kept
- Contact enquiries are kept only as long as needed to respond, manage any resulting relationship, meet legal obligations and resolve disputes.
- Mailing-list details are kept until you unsubscribe or the list is no longer used. A minimal suppression record may be kept so you are not contacted again by mistake.
- Analytics cookies can last for up to two years unless you withdraw consent or delete them sooner. Analytics reports may be retained in aggregated form for longer where they no longer identify an individual.
- Advertising cookies set by Meta typically last about three months unless you withdraw consent or delete them sooner. Withdrawing advertising removes the ones this site can reach.
- Security and operational logs are kept only for a proportionate period needed to protect and maintain the site.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances and the law that applies, you may have the right to ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or objection; to withdraw consent at any time; and to complain about how your information is handled. Withdrawing consent does not make earlier lawful processing unlawful.
Use the contact form and choose Other or general enquiry. I will acknowledge a data-protection complaint within 30 days, investigate it without undue delay, keep you informed where appropriate and explain the outcome. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or, where applicable, your local EU/EEA data-protection authority.
Children
This website is a general-audience music website and is not designed to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information inappropriately, please contact me so it can be reviewed and, where appropriate, deleted.
Cookie and Similar Technology Policy
Cookies are small files saved on a device. Similar technologies include local storage, pixels and scripts that recognise a browser or measure activity. Necessary technology is used to deliver and protect the site. In the UK, EEA and Switzerland, analytics and advertising storage are both denied until you allow them. Elsewhere, measurement may start automatically, but you can reject it or change your choice at any time.
Google’s advanced Consent Mode may send limited cookieless measurement signals where analytics storage is denied, without placing Google Analytics cookies. Choosing Reject analytics on this site disables future Google Analytics measurement and removes accessible first-party Analytics cookies where technically possible. Advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalisation stay disabled until you allow advertising. In the UK, EEA and Switzerland that means until you actively accept: before then the Meta script is not requested at all, so nothing is sent to Meta and no advertising cookie is placed.
Technology used on this site
| Technology / provider | Purpose | Category | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| sos_cookie_consent — Songs of Solomon | Remembers your analytics and advertising choices and the version of the notice you saw. | Necessary preference | 6 months |
| Bandzoogle core technologies | Hosting, security, forms, music playback and other functions you request. | Necessary | Session or a limited period appropriate to the function |
| _ga and _ga_<container-id> — Google Analytics | Distinguish browsers, measure visits and understand engagement such as page views, button clicks and song plays. | Analytics — prior consent where required; opt-out elsewhere | Up to 2 years |
| _fbp and _fbc — Meta | Recognise a browser so an advertisement can be connected to a visit and a streaming-link tap. | Advertising — consent required; not set until you allow it | About 3 months |
| Kit mailing-list submission | Sends the email address, optional first name and consent choice you enter only when you submit the form. | User requested / marketing consent | Kit does not need to place an analytics cookie on this site before you submit the form |
Cookie names and durations can change when providers update their services. This notice is reviewed when the site’s technology changes materially.
Your choices
On your first visit, you can Accept all, Reject all, or manage your choices. The buttons are presented at the same level. Analytics and advertising are separate switches, so you can allow one and refuse the other. If prior consent is required in your region and you do nothing, both stay off. In other regions, measurement starts automatically unless you opt out.
You can reopen the control at any time with Cookie settings in the footer. Rejecting or withdrawing analytics permission stops future Google Analytics measurement and removes the site’s accessible first-party Google Analytics cookies where technically possible. Withdrawing advertising permission stops further events being sent to Meta and removes the Meta cookies this site can reach. You can also delete cookies through your browser, but browser controls are not a substitute for the choices provided here.
External websites
No streaming platform loads a tracking SDK on this site, and no social-media SDK does either unless you have allowed advertising, in which case Meta’s measurement script runs. When you choose a link, the destination may set its own cookies. Review that provider’s privacy and cookie information and use its controls if you do not want those technologies.
Website Terms
By using this website, you agree to use it lawfully and not to interfere with its security, operation or other visitors’ access.
- Unless stated otherwise, the music, lyrics, recordings, photographs, artwork, writing, branding and page design are owned by or licensed to Songs of Solomon. You may enjoy and share ordinary links for personal, non-commercial purposes. Reproduction, redistribution, commercial use, training an artificial-intelligence system on protected content, or creating derivative works requires prior written permission unless the law clearly allows it.
- Pre-release dates, project details and availability may change. Website information is provided in good faith, but no guarantee is made that every page will always be uninterrupted or error-free.
- External links are offered for convenience. Songs of Solomon does not control or endorse every statement, product, policy or service on an external site.
- Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or affects your statutory rights.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live.
Accessibility
I want the music and information on this site to be usable by as many people as possible. The site is designed to work with keyboard navigation, readable contrast, text resizing and common screen readers, and accessibility is reviewed as the site changes.
If you encounter a barrier or need information in another reasonable format, please use the contact form and choose Other or general enquiry. Include the page and the problem you experienced, and I will do my best to help.
Changes to this page
This notice may be updated when the website, providers or law changes. The date at the top shows the latest revision. If a change materially affects consent, the website will ask visitors to choose again.
